To help parents prepare for their child’s baptism St. Joseph Parish offers Baptism Preparation classes 5 times a year. Please call the parish office (306) 764 4942 to register for the next set of classes.
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (CCC #1213)
When families have a baby it is great news, and we at St. Joseph Parish want to do everything we can to help you raise your child in the faith. The Baptismal Preparation Team Members are called to prepare for the gatherings, leading the preparation sessions and providing hospitality and a welcoming environment. Team Members share a love for the Church, an understanding of Baptism as a Sacrament of Initiation and embodies the importance of Hospitality.

Baptism Explained
Prayer over the water during the Baptism celebration
Father, you give us a grace through sacramental signs,
which tell us of the wonders of your unseen power.
In baptism we use your gift of water,
which you have made a rich symbol of the grace
you give us in this sacrament.
At the very dawn of creation your Spirit breathed on the water
making them the wellspring of all holiness.
Through the waters of the great flood you made a sign of the waters of baptism,
that make an end of sin and a new beginning of goodness.
Through the waters of the red sea you led Israel out of slavery,
to be an image of God’s holy people,
set free from sin by baptism.
In the waters of the Jordan your Son was baptized by John
and anointed with the Spirit.
Your Son willed that water and blood should flow from his side as he hung upon the cross.
After his resurrection he told his disciples:
“go out and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Father, look now with love upon your Church, and unseal for her the fountain of baptism.
By the power of the Spirit give to the water of this font the grace of your Son.
You created us in your own likeness:
cleanse us from sin in a new birth to innocence by water and the spirit.
We ask you Father, with your Son,
to send your Holy Spirit upon the water of this font.
May all who are buried with Christ in death, through baptism,
rise also with him to newness of life.
We ask this through Christ our lord.
All: Amen.
Sacramental Preparation
Baptism is the first step into the Catholic Church, however Baptism is only the first of the three sacraments of initiation. The other two sacraments of initiation are Confirmation and Eucharist. And to prepare for Confirmation and Eucharist we first prepare your child for the sacrament of Reconciliation. All this preparation commonly takes place in grade two. The program is a series of parent meetings (week nights) and liturgical services (Sunday) and runs from September to May. To inquire about having your child receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation please contact the parish office at (306) 764-4942
